Things we learn from sitcom...

i never thought that science can be the main focus of a sitcom, let alone one of my favorite sitcom..i mean..it's science and it usually (most of the times, no matter how u look at it)means EDUCATION! How can they turns something educational like science into an awesome show that keeps me watching and finishing the whole season in one night. Not even The Simpsons with the less educational and stupidity of Homer could do this to me before. Well, credits to it's creators, Chuck Lorre and Bill Pardy.

This show sets in California. Pasadena to be exact and it revolves around five friends; Leonard Hofstadter, Sheldon Cooper, Howard Wolowitz, Rajesh Koothrappali (all of them works at Caltech) and Penny. Leonard and Sheldon are roommates with Penny lives across the hall of their apartment. That is the brief introduction about this sitcom. Anyway, it occurs to me that every episode never fails to keep me from pausing the show and google for something about what they said during the show just to help me follow the show better.. =) quite frankly, i did learn few of new things by watching this comedy. This remind me of one problem face by Dr Rajesh Koothrppali, which is selective mutism.

Selective mutism is a communication disorder where a person who is normally able to speak is unable to speak in certain given situation or to specific people. It is said that selective mutism often co-existed with shyness or social anxiety. i used to having this problem although not as bad as Raj, but still i imagine what can i achieved if i was able to overcome this earlier (at times, i still feels that i still have this case of selective mutism). I was unable to talk or speak in front of new person, especially girl and it getting worse when i enter my teenage year, where i nearly didnt speak to any girl at my new school and my diploma days. sometimes it makes me wonder why i had girlfriends during those times.. =) i still remember during the election of my university's Student Representative, and the so-called future president of student representative which happens to be my classmate having a meeting among us in choosing the representative for the election. For some reason, my name was one of the list of students to be considered as the representative for our faculty. But..sadly they..well me as well think that i wont be the right person because i didnt even talk with my female classmates, let alone other girls from our faculty. Do you think that with that characteristic i can get any voter from female voters? i hardly think so.. so there it goes my first shot(well, yes,and  my last) in politic.

and it does affect me in class also. there were times in classroom where i was too shy to ask the teachers about what i dont understand because there were girls in there and i feel like as if they were staring at me when i open my mouth to talk. it goes until i enter UMS where i feels better and more comfortable in talking with girls. maybe the fact that there are only four boys in my class leave me no choice but learn how to make contact with the subject that i tried to avoid before. i'm glad that i finally can almost talk freely to most girls that i met

i think that's all for my first entry. right now i feels like i have a lot of things to share but time is not on my side.. i'm inside the geology lab at 2 in the morning accompanying my friend with his research.. there's a reason why he asked me to come here with him.. a reason i'd rather not to talk now.. maybe next time.. =)
